What to do about Breast Acne?

Whenever I am looking for solid, scientific information on a particular beauty product or ingredient I check out the Beauty Brains. This is a fantastic blog that focuses on all sorts of beauty questions, all from a scientific point of view. In this post, they tackle the problem of breast acne.

Some suggestions for treating breast acne include benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid peels, the AFA Clay Peel, and topical antibiotics like Clindamycin. Be sure to visit your medical aesthetician or dermatologist if this is a problem for you.

Quick Links - Glee Star Gets Botox To Her Jawline? And More on Vampire Facelift

Some quick links for you:

1. US Magazine.com is reporting that future Glee star Charise may be getting Botox injections to her jawline in order to make her face look less round. Her rep has denied it, claiming the Botox injections are for TMJ, a painful jaw disorder. Which is right?

I would bet on the former. I often inject Botox into the masseter muscle of the jaw to cause it to shrink down. This procedure is often performed on Asians, who traditionally have rounder faces and jaw muscle overgrowth. Click here for a photo of it from my website. As you can see, her face is quite round.

2. Salon.com has picked up the Vampire Facelift story and is reporting on it here, complete with some of my oh-so-interesting quotes.

See How You Might Look in 20 Years

If you want to be depressed, check out in20years.com where you can upload a photo of yourself and see what you might look like in 20 years. I hope I don't look like that when I am 57!
From a plastic surgeon/aging expert's perspective... that actually looks pretty realistic. As depressing as that may be!

How Today's Stars Will Age - My New MSNBC Slideshow

Do you want to know how today's stars will age? Have you tried to figure out which parts of the face age certain stars or keep them looking young? Are you wondering why my recent blog posts have stunk?

It's because I've been busy writing my new celebrity slideshow on MSNBC.com. It's called "How Today's Stars Will Age." You can find it here. Since obtaining my book deal (more on this later), I'm feeling more and more comfortable letting my personality come out in my writing. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did writing it. (My favorite one is the Britney Spears write-up)

Blog Reader's Experience with Juvederm Ultra

One of our faithful blog readers, Rosina from Middle Ageless, has posted a photo essay on her recent experience with Juvederm Ultra injections into her cheeks and nasolabial folds (groove extending from the side of the nose to the corner of the mouth). You can see her nice improvement here. She has a fairly typical result from a conservative amount of filler injected. I wonder how many vials were used? Most people with fairly prominent nasolabial folds need at least 2 vials to get optimal results.

If you haven't checked out her Middle Ageless blog, make sure to visit. It has a great combination of beauty, plastic surgery, and fashion secrets. You can check it out here.

10 Stars Under 40 Who've Had Way Too Much Plastic Surgery

The Frisky has a post on 10 stars under 40 who've had way too much plastic surgery. #1 is, you guessed it, that annoying frozen faced Heidi Montag. She really does look pretty freaky. I don't agree with everyone on the list, such as Megan Fox (gorgeous!) or Ashlee Simpson (does anyone think she looked better before her nose job?).

Is there anyone you would add to the list?

Merry Christmas! You Need to Improve How You Look!

There's a nice article by Diane Mapes in MSNBC.com called Bad Santa: Gifts That Say You're Old, Fat, and Hairy. They interviewed me for this one. Find it here.

November and December are some of the busiest months for plastic surgeons. There are lots of reasons:
1. People have time off to recover.
2. People have paid their deductibles and want to use their insurance for elective procedures (not cosmetic, though).
3. People come home for the holidays and have Mom take care of them while they recover from plastic surgery. No one cares for you like Mom!
4. People get plastic surgery as Christmas gifts.

With the economy in Michigan in the toilet, I am surprised at just how many people are having plastic surgery. I'm thankful, though, since I am able to give out Christmas bonuses and gift baskets this year!

7 Strange Plastic Surgery Procedures on MSNBC.com

There is an interesting slide show on MSNBC.com listing 7 Strange Plastic Surgery Procedures. Here they are, and whether or not I perform them:

1. Cankle Lipo - I do this surgery occasionally, but there is a high risk of fluid collections and other complications.
2. Earlobe Lift - This is a surgery I perform often, and recently discussed the "Pac Man Earlobe Lift" on the Fox News Channel.
3. Fillers in Your Feet - Mostly done by podiatrists.
4. Golf Ball Chin - As popularized by Chef Gordon Ramsay. I almost never inject Botox here, since people almost never ask for it.
5. Radish Calf - Huh? What the heck is this?
6. Knee Lipo - I do this all the time, mainly to the inner knee fat.
7. Necklace Lines - This is a silly name given to neck wrinkles. They are very difficult to get rid of, like the wrinkles in the palm of your hand. A good facelift may marginally improve them, but they are there to stay.

Here are two more strange, but true, surgeries they left out: Dimple Creation and Second Toe Shortening.

Coed Magazine's Top 10 Celebs Whose Breasts Are Just Too Big

Coed Magazine has a fun post about their Top 10 Celebs Whose Boobs Are Just Too Big. A couple are obvious (Pam Anderson and Dolly Parton), a couple I've never heard of (Serena Kozakura, Chantelle Houghton), and the last one is a doozy. 10,000 cc?!??! That's 30 of my average size implants, all in one breast. Crazy!

Celebrities With the Best and Worst Skin

There is a photo gallery of the Top 5 Celebs with the Best and Worst Skin on AOL Health.com. I would have to agree with most of their assessments. My picks for the best skin: Cate Blanchett and Halle Berry (tie), worst skin: Lindsay Lohan.

In my opinion there are three things that are most important to having great skin as you age:
1. Wear sunblock and avoid excessive sun
2. Don't smoke
3. Hope that you inherited good genes

Some other suggestions include: Apply Retin A or Retinol creams, drink lots of water, avoid too much alcohol and fast food, and exfoliate. A good chemical peel also helps.

How Fast Are You Aging?

There is an interesting quiz on Parade.com that you may enjoy. It asks you 21 questions to determine how fast you are aging. The questions range from the obvious (do you smoke?) to the not-so-obvious (did you grow up with a dog?). I scored a 74, which means that I am aging like a Giant Tortoise. Check it out here if you have a few minutes to spare.

Thanks to Cosmetic Makeovers for the link.

Celebrity Eyebrow Makeovers on MSNBC.com

MSNBC.com has an interesting slideshow in the Top 12 Celebrity Eyebrow Makeovers. Some are huge improvements while others are barely noticeable. You can check it out here.

It reminds me of a photo I show some patients. I once had a woman in her 30's see me in consultation for a browlift. After looking at her for about two seconds I figured out that she didn't need a brow lift, but a brow wax. Fifteen minutes (and twenty dollars) later she looked a heck of a lot better, as her Andy Rooney bushy brows were shaped into nice, defined arches. I saved her about $3500 and she left the office happy and surgery-free!

The Facile Breast Augmentation Technique

Sorry for the lack of updates lately, but I've been a bit under the weather. While hanging out at home I've heard / seen local ads for two heavily advertised plastic surgery procedures that made me go hmmmm...

1. The Facile Breast Augmentation Technique - An ad on a local radio station promotes this procedure. It's a bladeless breast enhancement technique that's promoted to have a quick recovery (which is the same recovery time my patients need). Check out the comments on a different blog here. To view a video of a breast augmentation I performed for Fox News, click here.

2. The "Most Prominent" One Hour Facelift - CBS 46 Atlanta has a five part series focusing on this. Check it out here.

I do not and have never performed either of these procedures.

2. Socialite Life has a photo gallery of prominent celebrities who have had (mostly bad) plastic surgery. There are some regulars here (Lara Flynn Boyle, Kenny Rogers) but also some unexpected ones (Calista Flockhart, Ray Liotta). Click here to check it out.

3. The first face transplant in the United States has been performed at Cleveland Clinic. 80% of her face has been replaced by the face of a cadaver. Can you imagine what it would be like to look into the mirror and see someone else's face? Click here for the article from CNN.com.
